Mentoring our teams
Every year we try to open new FLL teams.
This year we've had 9 Orbit FLL teams. We strive to make our workshop a safe space for our younger teams, and as such make sure that every student is treated equally and has the same opportunities. Each team of ours has between 2 to 4 designated mentors (FRC team students) who have taught them, pushed them forward, and helped them succeed to the best of their abilities.
Our young mentors work with their team at least twice a week, and when the team wants to meet outside the normal hours, their mentors are always available.
In preparation for the competition, the work naturally intensifies and the meetings get as frequent as needed - sometimes becoming daily.
Of course, in addition to the hours that the mentors actively work each week, they are always just a phone call away.
With each passing day, we see how our help gives our teams the push that they need to succeed.
Here are a couple of achievements from the last years:
-
We have consistently been sending 2-4 teams to the Israel national FLL
-
Competition every year and last year more than 60% of our teams had qualified for it.
-
In The Israel Isolierband & FLL OffSeason 2022/23, one of our teams, Orbit #910, placed 1st in the FLL section of the competition.
-
One of our teams, Orbit #911, had won 1st place in the innovation project in the 2021/22 season and were candidates for the Global Innovation Award.
-
Over the years we have received awards such as the Excellence in Engineering, the Robot Performance Award, the Robot Design Award, and more.
